Westport Country Play¬house: “Around the World in 80 Days” Only two words are needed to describe this play: “ingenious” and “hilarious.”
Adapted from the Jules Verne classic by Mark Brown and di¬rected by Michael Evan Haney, this was one cleverly conceived adventure. A superbly talented ensemble survives everything from typhoons on the high seas, to Indian raids on steam loco¬motives. It was a grand madcap comedy punctuated with in¬trigue and romance.
“Children” Following the Aristotelian unities of time, place, and action, A.R. Gur¬ney’s first full length play, “Children,” takes place on a single day. This play has never been so well rendered as it was under the direction of John Tillinger and with the artistry of an accomplished and out¬standing cast. The action un¬folds at a well-to-do family’s summer home on the Fourth of July. By play’s end there are plenty of fireworks, though not the kind that explode into pret¬ty patterns in the sky.
