Arts Education at the Playhouse
Arts education is the cornerstone of our mission and encompasses much more than just field trips to see a production. Our objective is to enrich the experience of each audience member through the art of storytelling. We strive to create a meaningful community dialogue, challenging the perceptions and expectations for each participant by opening their eyes to diverse cultures and new challenges through theatre.

Our educational programs include:
  • The nationally recognized Woodward Intern and Apprentice Program, an intensive residence program that helps shape the future of theatre by training artists and administrators.
  • Our Theatre Access Fund offers subsidized tickets and transportation to children, families and seniors who would otherwise be unable to attend performances. This program brought over 3,000 people to the Playhouse in 2007.
  • A three-year playmaking program enables Middle School students from Norwalk and Westport to participate in an acting/playwriting workshop. The students create short plays independently and then join together for rehearsals, with a final performance on the Playhouse stage.

This is just the beginning. With your support, we can achieve our vision for the future:
  • To engage learners without regard to age, experience, or economic circumstances.
  • To develop future audiences.
  • To enrich the quality of the theatrical experience for each participant.
  • To expose our community to the arts and thereby enrich the skills needed to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing global community.

Your support is critical to our efforts, and we rely on your generosity to fund these vital programs. Please consider the importance of the arts in our community. Your support will help keep the arts thriving, both for those who have the means to participate, and those who don’t.

We hope you will you play a part of keeping culture alive, growing and vibrant in Fairfield County.
